Synopsis:

"Edge of Darkness" is an emotionally charged thriller set at the intersection of politics and big business. Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father. When his only child, 24-year-old Emma (Bojana Novakovic), is murdered on the steps of his home, everyone assumes that he was the target. But he soon suspects otherwise, and embarks on a mission to find out about his daughter's secret life and her killing. His investigation leads him into a dangerous, looking-glass world of corporate cover-ups, government collusion and murder--and to shadowy government operative Darius Jedburgh (Ray Winstone), who has been sent in to clean up the evidence. Craven's solitary search for answers about his daughter's death transforms into an odyssey of emotional discovery and redemption.

4 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN EXPECTED   September 8, 2010
MISTER SJEM (CALIF BAY AREA United States)
Better than I thought it would be. It has the typical "You killed my daughter and now I'm going to get revenge with a gun" angle but the characters tend to have a bit more depth. The dead daughter sometimes talking to Mel and the whimsical Ray Winstone (friend or foe?) were some nice touches. One of the writers for this piece also wrote THE DEPARTED (a better picture). MY GRADE: B to B plus; WHEN WATCHED: 09/07/2010.

5 out of 5 stars Right on, Mel!   August 15, 2010
Scorpio69 (Hawaii, America's Paradise)
Mainstream professional critics don't like two things: Any serious suggestion of an afterlife or eternal soul, and 9/11 "conspiracy theories". Add to that Mel Gibson himself, as he's been portrayed in mainstream tabloid stories, and this movie has three major strikes going against it from their perspective.

However, for those of us who have no trouble believing in a soul and/or a government hand in 9/11 -- and don't judge Mel based upon tabloid journalism -- this is outstanding. Mel is a terrific actor, and in this movie we believe he is suffering beyond words over his daughter's murder. We believe him when he turns that suffering into action in pursuit of the truth. And we believe the underlying premise; i.e., that evil criminals control the levers of power in this country and have an agenda that sees the rest of us merely as sheep to be slaughtered.

5 out of 5 stars A tired premise revamped with excellent execution   August 15, 2010
Shane Allen Windham (Dallas, TX)
So, we've all seen variations of this story line a hundred times. Not to mention that the previews made this movie look entirely too much as though we'd be getting "Ransom version 2.0". However, once this movie starts taking off you quickly realize it's going to be a whole new monster. The cast, the script and the direction are all fantastic. A must see.

5 out of 5 stars Mel Gibson/Edge of Darkness   August 13, 2010

Always enjoy Mel's movies, this one was not exception. Very good movie.
Would recommend it to any "Mel" fan.

Okay, so there are advantages to going out to the local mall and doing some window shopping or browsing in your favorite bookstore, but when time is short, go the online route. Play at an online casino and save yourself the hassle of time-consuming travel.
